Why am I getting a rejections stating Medicare Policy cannot be secondary to another Medicare Policy

A Medicare Policy cannot be secondary to another Medicare policy

If two plans attached to a Medicare insurance category will have the claim-filing indicator of MB, which this is invalid and needs to be corrected.

  • Verify on each insurance plan which insurance category is attached to the plans
  • If traditional Medicare and Medicare Replacement plan is active on the patient account, verify eligibility and select the incorrect plan as inactive.
  • Open the Visit for the date of service that is rejecting and unselect the incorrect plan filed on the claim.

A claim rule can be activated within Medevolve, to stop claims processing to the clearinghouse for this setup until corrected. To set this claim rule follow the following steps:

  • Go to Tables
  • Select Insurance
  • Then select Claim Rules
  • Scroll down to the MCR cannot be second to MCR and on the right had side, choose Select All
  • Then select Apply
